Seasonal Moving Tips for Santa Clarita Residents

Most people pick a moving date based on when their lease ends or when escrow closes. The season, though, shapes more than just the calendar. In Santa Clarita, the time of year affects how much lead time you need to book a dedicated moving crew, what weather conditions they will be working in, and how much scheduling flexibility you actually get. Here is what to think through before you lock in a date.

Summer Moves in Santa Clarita (May Through August)

Summer is peak moving season, and the Santa Clarita Valley is no exception. School years ending, lease cycles turning over, and real estate closings all converge between May and August. The demand for professional movers spikes, and scheduling timelines tighten accordingly.

If you are planning a summer move in the SCV, book 6 to 8 weeks in advance. By late June, weekends are typically full. Booking early gives you the best choice of date, crew, and scheduling window.

The heat is a real factor. Santa Clarita summers regularly reach the 90s and push past 100 degrees in July and August. Schedule your crew for an early morning start, keep the air conditioning running at both properties if possible, and make sure cold water is available throughout the day. Heat affects more than comfort. Electronics, candles, and certain wood finishes can warp or sustain damage when left in a hot truck during extended transit.

One thing stays consistent regardless of heat: our crews show up on time and in uniform. As one Angi reviewer wrote after their SCV move: “The crews showed up in uniforms, on time and professional. The men went above and beyond to help me with packing as well as organizing my items. They made my moves stress-free, easy and affordable.”

Fall Moving in the SCV (September Through November)

September through November is one of the better windows to move in Santa Clarita. Temperatures have dropped, demand is lighter, and you have more flexibility when it comes to scheduling. If your timeline gives you any choice, fall is worth considering seriously.

The one complication fall introduces is school. If you have children, moving mid-semester creates transition challenges that a summer move avoids. For families with flexibility, completing the move before the school year begins in late August sidesteps this entirely.

For long-distance moves being planned in the fall, this window gives you more room to schedule pickup and delivery through the National Van Lines network. Out-of-state moves from Santa Clarita typically have more flexibility in the fall than they do during the peak summer months.

Winter Moves (December Through February)

December through February is the slowest period for moving companies, and that works in your favor for scheduling. You are more likely to get the exact date and crew you want, with less lead time required than any other time of year.

The practical consideration in Santa Clarita is rain. The SCV does not get heavy snowfall, but winter rain creates real problems on moving day if you are not prepared. We use carpet shield and wall protection on every job regardless of season, which matters most in wet weather when muddy boots and wet equipment become a risk to your floors and doorframes.

The holiday window in December creates its own scheduling complication. Most people avoid moving the week before Christmas, but the stretch between Christmas and New Year’s can work well if your situation calls for it. Just confirm your mover is operating during that period.

Spring Moving (March Through April)

Spring is a transitional window with comfortable temperatures and the widest scheduling flexibility before summer demand picks up. For buyers and sellers, this is when the Santa Clarita real estate market typically gets active again after the winter slowdown.

If your closing date and move-in date do not line up exactly, spring is a good time to use storage to bridge the gap. We run our own storage facility with over 40,000 square feet, 24-hour internal surveillance, and private vaults. When we handle your move, the first two months of storage are at no charge. No third-party arrangement, no separate contract.

What Stays the Same Every Season

A few things do not change regardless of when you move.

Get your estimate from an in-home visit, not a phone call. An in-home walkthrough is the only basis for an accurate price. We provide free in-home estimates for every job, and there are no hidden fees. The price you receive after the walkthrough is the price you can plan around.

Verify your mover’s licensing before you book. Every California mover should have a CAL-T PUC number. Ours is 188503. For interstate moves, a US DOT number is also required. Ours is 125563. We are an authorized agent for National Van Lines, which matters for any long-distance or out-of-state job.

Our crews go through the AMSA Certified Packer Loaders Program. Carpet shield and wall protection go on every job. That standard does not change with the calendar.

Casey and Kelly Kirkman have owned and operated AQMS since 2006, and we have been part of the Santa Clarita community since 1996. Whatever season you are moving in, we have worked in all of them here in the SCV.
